Hide-a-Stone
I wanted something to disguise my floodlights and fog machine in my yard in 2008. After researching the web, I discovered several sites that sold “high end” tombstones for such a task. On a tight budget….I figured I could make something equal in style and function. So off to my Witch’s Den…. I went to recreate my own “much cheaper” version.
I call it Hide-a-Stone.

Hope this inspires you to create your own version to use in your Haunt.
Supply list:
2 X 2
4 Wood screws
Foam Installation Board
Liquid Nails Adhesive
Bamboo Skewers (stole from my kitchen supply)
2 eye-hooks
Paint (I used a grayish stone texture spray paint along with black and green acrylic paint)

I had no real pattern to go by for this design. I went off pure instinct on this one (sort of put it together as I went). The overall size goes from 24″ top to 28″ bottom. Inner depth provides 12″ of hiding room.

I used my soldering iron to burn the edges of the foam to give sort of a carved look to the outer edges of the stone. I used the barrel of my soldering iron (see photo below) to melt the foam to achieve this look.

Eye-hooks were added to both sides of the wood frame.

I added wood filler to fill in skewer holes once set. I used a cheap wood cross found at the local Dollar Store and added a plastic skull to the center (again very simple and cheap) and started painting.

It’s a great cheap and easy stone to hide your flood lights, fog machine or speakers in your haunt. Use the top to display candles, skulls or other eerie items in your haunt.

Happy Hauntings
