Items Needed
1 Floral foam wreath and 1 Floral cone or cyclinder
Floral tape or masking tape
Black Spray Paint
Hot Glue Gun
And good old Mother Nature….Dead Twigs from your yard
EXTRA – You can add any miscellaneous Halloween decorations you want to these projects. We used fake spider web and plastic skeletons (seen in below pics) for an added errie touch.
INSTRUCTIONS
1) First send the kids out in the yard to gather dead twigs that have fallen from the trees.
2) Have the kids wrap floral or masking take around the foam wreath and cone/cylinder. NOTE: The tape is not meant to be applied smooth – so let them have fun wrapping, twisting and wrinkling the tape. This will ultimately give you a rough bark appearance.
3) Taking a pencil help them poke holes randomly in the foam shape. PARENTS HELP HERE – using the hot glue gun apply a small dot of glue inside each hole and place the twig firmly in the hole.
4) PARENTS HELP HERE – Spray paint the entire wreath and tree with matte black spray paint. My son (age 6 at time) was so excited about making his first Halloween prop and being able to actually spray the paint from the can (under my supervision).
Once dry
5) Decorate
We found a small cauldron vase to use as a base for our Dead Tree (see photo below). We added orange spider web to the base for fun. Another idea -hang mini Halloween ornaments from the branches.
As far as decorating the wreath, we glued cheap plastic skeletons (DollarTree find) randomly around the wreath directly to the twigs. The center is a mini plastic battery operated light glued in place (you can add any thing you want as your center focal point). Lastly we added fake spider webs and we were done.
DEAD TREE
DEAD WREATH
I used the wreath inside in 2007 in my kitchen.
2009, I used the Dead Wreath on my front door.
