Haunters Toolbox

haunters-tool-box-ii

I put this very basic list together for a couple friends to help them understand how common items purchased at Home Depot, Lowes or found in your garbage pile can easily be turned into an awesome Halloween Prop. I tend to find people standing there in amazement, when I explain what I used to make a prop…… Especially since everyone is not keen on the basic supplies, terms and acronyms used by a home haunter.

This list is no way a complete list of all the tools used to build Halloween props, or all the terms/acronyms referenced. It is a basic list of the most common items purchased/used by a Home Haunter (or at least by me and is actually reference in one of my How-to’s).

Basic Materials List

foam-installation-board

You are able to pick up ridgid foam installation board at Home Depot or Lowes (hint: if you do not own a pick-up truck you can have them cut the board in half for easy transportation).

greatstuff-foam

Great Stuff Foam is great for filling in empty spaces on your props. Examples: filling in areas between skulls on my Shadow Demon, support/base inside PVC Flicker candles, empty space inside a mache or hot glue skull for added support when mounting. Great Stuff can even be formed and carved into some awesome gruesome intestines as seen here.

On a  budget?? Call one of the busineses in your local Industrial Park area. You’d be surprised at thier willingness to give away old pallets (the darker, worn and stained the better).

 Common Haunter Terms

Static Prop is defined as inactive: not in physical motion – example my Shadow Demon.

Axworthy Flying Ghost a motor driven cable and pulley system similar to a ski lift in design. A great How-to can be found HERE and HERE.

Flying Crank Ghost or FCG - ghostly figure that actually is an articulated marionette, which hangs from a motor platform. A great How-to can be found HERE.

A wealth of knowledge on Prop 1 and Servos can be found here HERE.

I plan to continue to update this list as items pop in my head.
